EAST COAST - SMALL ISLANDS, CORAL REEFS, CALM TURQUOISE WATERS
The East Coast of Martinique is a breathtaking protected zone of small islands, coral reefs, and calm turquoise waters — often described as Martinique’s own “mini-Grenadines,” but without the crowds. This area offers exceptional opportunities for exploration, relaxation, and water sports in a uniquely serene setting.
Extensive reef systems break the Atlantic swell, creating beautiful, still lagoons ideal for anchoring. The all-weather entrance at Le Robert allows yachts to access sheltered waters or continue south toward Le François Bay, where guests can enjoy complete tranquillity around the islands of Thierry, Oscar, and Long.
Several large yachts — including MY Axioma, MY Lady Sheridan, MY Ekaterina, SY Topaz, and others — have enjoyed this exceptional cruising area. Depending on sea conditions, yachts may anchor among the islands while guests arrive comfortably by tender through the marina at Le François.
DYS often pairs an East Coast visit with a stop at Habitation Clément, the island’s most iconic cultural and rum estate. Only 10 minutes from Le François, it is a “must-do” experience for guests wanting to discover Martinique’s heritage. The historic Creole house on Ilet Oscar can also be privatised for exclusive dining or small events.
The shallow waters between the islands include the well-loved “Josephine’s Bathtub,” where guests can enjoy swimming, lounging, and even floating lobster BBQ lunches arranged by DYS.
The East Coast offers ideal conditions for:
• Jet-skiing
• Kitesurfing
• Kayaking
• Snorkelling
• Scuba diving on the outer reefs
Beaches are limited, but the beauty of the lagoon more than compensates.
Guests can also explore the coastline by tender, kayak, or jet ski from Baie du Trésor on the Tartane peninsula all the way down to Îlet Grenade north of Vauclin.
While the waters are stunning, they can be very shallow in places, with coral outcrops throughout the reef system. Captains should navigate carefully and maintain reduced speed.
Transfers to and from the airport or for island visits are simple — DYS arranges tender navigation through Le François marina day or night using pre-programmed GPS routes.
